Earlier this year designer Rick Owens created quite a buzz in the fashion world with his showcase in Men’s Fashion Week Paris by sending male models down the runway sporting knee length frocks with crotch level cut-outs exposing the genitalia in all of it’s glory. While female models commonly strut the runway bare chested, never before had the penis been in the lime light. The designer received mixed reviews on the publicity stunt. Some applauded his efforts, others seemed offended, while a majority enjoyed the view and the conversation.
Last week, MTCostello, designed by Michael and Stephanie Costello, unveiled their Fall/Winter 2015 collection in Art Hearts Fashion at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and continued the penis exploitation trend, while raising the bar with French model Laurent Marchand.
Marchand left spectators in awe when he strutted down the runway in a shimmering, crocodile print cape, sporting nothing underneath but a golden jewel embezzled snake wrapped around his goods.
The muscular model made headlines at the finale of the last ever MBFW to be held at Lincoln Center, fitting the definition of the MTCostello brand which is “Unapologetically breaking the rules, raising the bar and influencing the power of sex, love and rebellion.”
Staying true to their traditional aesthetic the collection also featured beautiful lace fabric while incorporating faux exotic skins, floor length jackets and form fitting silhouettes that accentuate a women’s natural figure.
Photography by BigPicturMarchand was not the only model that dared to bare in the MTCostello runway presentation. The showcase opened with a female model draped in a delicate lace cloak covered in nothing else but beautifully decorated body paint by Mehron.
The entire Fall/Winter 2015 collection by MT was inspired by exotic skins, empowerment and finding your inner animal. The final look of the presentation featured a women in an elegant black lace gown who’s face was covered by a disfigured mask custom made by Mehron artists. When reaching the end of the catwalk, the model peeled off the prosthetic mask unveiling her inner animal, a scarily seductive snake.
February 19, 2015, MTCostello, designed by Michael and Stephanie Costello, unveiled their Fall/Winter 2015 collection in the Art Hearts Fashion showcase at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York. The presentation left the audience on the edge of their seats with its theatrics, including the continuation of the penis exploitation trend initiated by Rick Owens during Men’s Fashion Week Paris.
While there was never a display of full frontal nudity due to the placement of the model’s hand, IMG halted the live broadcast, pulled the footage from the internet and refuses to syndicate the video because of its controversial content.
The naked male model was not the only one who dared to bare in the MTCostello runway presentation. The showcase opened with a female model draped in a delicate lace cloak covered in nothing but beautifully decorated body paint, applied by artists of Mehron Cosmetics.
MTCostello’s showstopping presentation brought never before seen moments to New York Fashion Week, unveiling to the world why they define themselves as, “Unapologetically breaking the rules, raising the bar and influencing the power of sex, love and rebellion.” The runway was not only used as a platform to present the new collection, but to express creative freedom and challenge boundaries imposed by conservatives in the American fashion industry.

Designers, Michael and Stephanie Costello, truly put on a show with the MTCostello brand. Each collection tells a meaningful story filled with hidden messages. This season the swamp inspired collection was all about shedding ones skin. Peeling off the layers of insecurities and regrets, empowering the mind and body while tapping into your inner animal.
